Root Canals

ROOT CANALS

Filled with sensitive blood vessels and nerves, root canals are elongated branches that extend from a tooth's root to the center of the internal crown. When a decaying tooth is neglected as far as dental treatment, bacteria can infect the root canals. Accidental cracks and other penetration in the tooth can also lead to infection in root canals. There are two methods of treating a tooth that has been infected. The first option is root canal therapy. Another option involves complete extraction of a tooth and replacement with an artificial installation such as a dental bridge or denture. Our forte is saving teeth that can possibly last a lifetime. We believe that removing teeth should be the last option on the table. Root canal therapy is the most viable treatment for saving a tooth. However, we don't rush to conclusions and evaluate each case individually before recommending a root canal therapy. In many cases, teeth that have cracks don't need this type of treatment at all. Consider getting an evaluation by another expert if your dentist rushes to suggest root canal therapy without providing other treatment choices.

You might have heard that root canal therapy is a nightmare that's full of pain and discomfort. The truth is that receiving root canal therapy is likely to be less painful than getting a tooth extracted.

At Bowers Dental Group, our goal is to treat tooth decay with simple fillings in order to eliminate the need for a root canal therapy. We offer preventive dental services with a gentle touch that are designed to keep your teeth in optimum condition.
